This latest commission of a beautiful Pug was so lovely to draw. I had never drawn a pug before and found that they have completely different eyes to other dogs with almost unidentifiable pupils. Sometimes you need to adapt a portrait to make it look 'real' because by merely copying what you see, the eyes would appear dull and black and ironically 'not real'. The owner had sent me a variety of photographs and I had chosen this one for the image's clarity and the subject's pose. However, she loved her to occasionally wear a pearl necklace. This wasn't actually in the photograph but was easy enough to add. A beautiful dog to draw, such a pleasure!
